One of my favourite parts of my job is keeping this blog up-to-date, and it has a lot of advantages. Although my main site has galleries of my portfolio, the blog gives me the opportunity to share more pictures from recent sessions, as and when they happen. It gives my clients the chance to get a peek at their session before their private gallery goes online, and prospective clients to see what I'm all about. It's also a handy tool for updating news like pricing, offers and availability.
The pictures I post on here are both watermarked and low-resolution (while these pictures look fine on-screen, the print quality will be distorted), and I have no problem with them being shared elsewhere, be it on networking sites like Facebook, personal blogs or family websites. All I ask is that the watermark is kept intact and the image linked back to this website, which is something that the vast majority of people have no problem with.
However, I've recently come to see my images in various forums, with the watermark removed and with no reference to First Glance Photography whatsoever. This is considered image theft, and is a breech of copyright and illegal to boot. It saddens me, because as I said before, I like to keep this blog running and would hate to shut it down. I also like to think that my clients appreciate the work, time, money and talent that goes into running my business and wouldn't steal from me in this way. I personally don't think it is unreasonable to allow image sharing with the conditions set - to not deface the picture, and to add a small link or line of text, just stating that the image is © First Glance Photography.
I'd just like to reiterate that copying images posted on this blog without permission and reposting without the watermark and/or a link is illegal.
